Dengue Fever is a viral disease characterized by sudden onset of fever of 38 C and above, lasting for 5 days or more. This is accompanied by muscle or joint pains, appearance of petechiae of arms, body, feet and legs, positive tourniquet test and thrombocytopenia or low platelet count of less than 100,000/cu.mm.

The most important way to prevent and control Dengue Fever is to eliminate favourable sites of the Aedes mosquitoes. This can be done by maintaining cleanliness of the surroundings and discarding containers that collect water suitable for breeding.

The G. L. David Memorial Elementary School with the YES-O Club supports the campaign and had conducted the school-based Brigada Kalinisan and Dengue Prevention Campaign on November 2-8, 2015.

The following activities were conducted: Clean-up Drive, each grade level cleaned the schools’ surrounding. They made sure that all trash bins were emptied and garbage was separated. Making themselves good examples for their schoolmates will be a great help to make school grounds clean and in order. Parents also participated on this activity. And Emptying stagnant water, stagnant waters in flower pots, vases, bottles and containers were emptied and changed, to make sure that eggs and wriggles of mosquitoes will be no longer live there. Bottles were turned upside down so that it will not catch water that the mosquito may lay their eggs.

Continuing health education on prevention, control and management of Dengue Fever, is as important as the other activities.
