"Brigada Eskwela", also known as National Schools Maintenance Week, is a school maintenance program enjoining all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that public school facilities are ready for the upcoming school opening.

Morning of May 20, 2013, all public schools in Balanga City Assembled in Plaza Mayor  for the annual parade to start the Brigada Eskwela Week. After the Parade, the city of Balanga officials headed by Hon. Joet Garcia announces the project for pubic schools this SY 2013-2014. The City Government will distribute Kindle Tablet to all public elementary schools to help our teachers be more efficient and to raise our pupils technological awareness.

Following this year’s mantra “Isang dekada ng Bayanihan para sa Paaralan,” GL David teachers, parents, students, community members and other organizations work together to do minor repairs and clean-up their schools in preparation for the coming school year. The Filipino term “Bayanihan”refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective, which derived from the word ‘bayan,’ or community. Brigada Eskwela is anchored in this neighborly spirit to make sure the schools are ready when the kids return from their summer break.

The 5-day activity aims to spare school children from using their time and effort to clean the school surroundings once they report for classes.

"Brigada Eskwela" which started in 2003 was part of DepEd’s "Balik Eskwela" Program and National Maintenance Week.
